Is this your first boudoir session? Or maybe just need a refresher on some tips?

An intimate boudoir photography session is when you wear sexy outfits, lingerie, or even go scantily clad and get your photos taken. There are several reasons one may do a boudoir session, but guess what, only YOU need to know the reason you are doing them.

The photos are tasteful, and nudity is usually implied rather than seen (although, feel free to get naked!)  They are sensual and sexy as well as classy and elegant.

Boudoir shoots make excellent wedding day, anniversary, holiday, and birthday gifts or just because. Your partner will love them, but you may be surprised how much you’ll love them too!

What is Boudoir?

Boudoir photography treads the fine line between fashion portraits and glamour photography. The word boudoir itself derives from a French word which means a woman’s private salon. Boudoir shoots are usually for women; however, men are also welcome to explore a different side to their personality.

These shoots are meant to exude sensuality and are intimate in nature. That’s why one usually wears racy lingerie and pose seductively to profess ownership over their sexuality.

Unlike other genres, boudoir’s subjects are often not professional models—anyone can do a boudoir shoot. In fact, if you are on a journey of self-discovery, in need of a confidence boost, or just want to express yourself unabashedly, a boudoir session can be the very thing you’ve been looking for.

Who is Boudoir Photography for?

Boudoir photography is for everyone. (AND I MEAN IT!)

Perhaps you want to discover another side to your personality you never even knew existed. Or you’ve had enough of the naysayers and know it’s time to prove that you’re worth it. Or maybe you want to do something special for your bae (but really just want a gift for yourself—it’s ok, your secret’s safe with us). Boudoir photography is for you.

The thought of stripping down under the scrutiny of cameras may seem intimidating, but you will push past the initial feeling of self-consciousness within the first few seconds once you realize you are in good hands. I will go the extra mile to make sure you are having the time of your life.

There is something extraordinarily empowering about stepping out of your meek shell and owning your sensuality.

Our #1 tip is to bring all the things! Women bring suitcases full of outfits and props.  Here are a few examples:

  • Classic lingerie/bra & pantie sets
  • Your favorite sweater or t-shirt with panties and long socks
  • Those jeans that make your butt look sooooo good – We pair those with nothing on top, it really makes a statement.
  • Bring all the shoes, especially the heels!
  • Jewelry! Especially something that your SO gifted to you or your wedding ring
  • Garter belt and fishnet stockings elongate those legs – Oh my!
  • Make it spicy! Bring the whips, chains, handcuffs – there’s no judgement here!

If you’re doing the session for someone else – As your wedding day or anniversary gift – Consider adding a touch of them to the session.

  • Their clothing: button up shirts, uniforms, jerseys, etc.
  • Include their hobbies! Bring a football, a race car flag, guns, whatever they are into.
  • Think outside the box! I had one girl bring a rock-climbing harness because she met her husband while rock climbing. Do you know how good that harness looked with fish nets?!?

The goal is to wear items that make you feel beautiful.  You’ll look sexiest when you feel confident! My job is to help you build more confidence and enhance the way you see yourself!

What is male boudoir?

Male boudoir photography (coined as “dudeoir photography”) is a type of photography that captures intimate images of men in a comfortable setting. It is becoming increasingly popular among men of all ages and backgrounds. This type of photography captures a man’s inner strength and sensuality, allowing him to express himself in a way that is unique and meaningful.

Trends and directions

Sexy images of well-fit men have always been around, and male models regularly sport their six-packs in front of photographers’ cameras. They come to me for model portfolios and dating profiles. However, the body positivity spearheaded by confident women opened the doors to boudoir photography for all shapes. Although slower, the gentlemen followed the suit.

According to recent research, male boudoir is becoming increasingly popular among the males. This is because it is becoming more accepted and less taboo. The statistics also show that more men are becoming more comfortable with the idea of boudoir photography and are more willing to explore it as an option for capturing their own beauty and sensuality. Traditionally, those were informally reserved for women, as also seen in my extensive boudoir photography portfolio.
